The David E. Rogers Student Fellowship Award is meant to enrich the educational experiences of medical and dental students through projects that bear on medicine and dentistry as they contribute to the health of communities, and to address the human needs of underserved or disadvantaged patients or populations.
Competition is open to candidates attending medical or dental school in the United States. Students are encouraged to pursue research projects that extend beyond the startup period. Additionally, eligible candidates are required to be a US citizen, permanent resident of the US, or authorized to work in the US for the period of time covered by this proposed award. You will be asked to complete an eligibility quiz. Provided that you meet the program eligibility requirements, you will then be asked to register by creating a login and password. With your login and password, you will be able to access the online application, including the forms that you must upload and complete.
The application should work in all browsers. We recommend that you use Firefox, Chrome or Internet Explorer. The stipend will be paid directly to the sponsoring institution in two equal installments at the beginning and end of the grant period. The second payment will be contingent upon the submission of a written report on the project. No institutional overhead charges will be paid.
Announcement of the successful applicants for the David E. Rogers Student Fellowships Awards will be made in time for a summer research project to commence. Student grantees are additionally expected to present their research findings at the Academy's annual Medical Student Forum in September following the summer of their project, to an audience of Academy Fellows, faculty mentors, research colleagues and fellow student grant awardees.

Assuming these positions of leadership during a turbulent period of race relations in Baltimore, he led efforts to extend increased health care services to the East Baltimore community surrounding Johns Hopkins.
As dean, Rogers boosted enrollment of African American students at the school of medicine. An early proponent of health maintenance organizations, Rogers also played a major role in the development of the Columbia Medical Plan, a prepaid health plan in the newly established city of Columbia, Maryland. During his fifteen-year presidency, the foundation became the largest philanthropy to devote resources to problems in health care.
